I think it's safe to say that many of these American "Christians" go directly against the Christian message of unconditionally love. Especially if you keep in mind that it's not uncommon to hear them preach that God and/or Jesus hates gay people/other minorities, and that they'll go to hell etc. I also consider it to be extremely out of place that so many of them also have a lot of prejudice, along with a "holier than thou" mindset.

God gives everyone a chance to join him in heaven. You don’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to attend organized worship, hell you don’t even have to be a decent human being. You only need to do 1 thing before you die, it’s really that simple. People make it difficult.
